ABSTRACT

The reflection involves thinking both with and beyond Canetti and Simone Weil to the categories of the unpolitical in the work of Georges Bataille. In the transition to the notion of community, the categories of the unpolitical continue their movement away from the domain of political philosophy to a more heterodox theoretical framework. The move to encompass literature, presented in the discussion of the categories of the unpolitical in Broch and Canetti, is further radicalised to place into question the very tradition of political philosophy. These initial indications in Canetti are only fully conceived in the work of Simone Weil. The passage beyond the limits imposed by Canetti's negative anthropology is already present within those other elements of Canetti which demonstrate the potential separation of the subject and power. The separation is introduced through Canetti's indication of the subject's capacity for passivity in its relationship to power.
