ABSTRACT

The activities presented in this chapter are designed to be session contained because of the characteristics of open, single session, and self-help/mutual aid groups. Other types of leaderless groups are more likely to have a specific or cognitive focus, such as case review, where the emphasis is not so much on the group and its members' personal issues as would be the case for the other types of groups, and will have less need for activities such as those presented here. Presented are a brief overview of the literature, a list of some group situations that could be addressed with an activity even with an untrained group leader, basic considerations the leader should attend to prior to implementing an activity, and a description of the phases for implementing activities in the group.
