ABSTRACT

While not part of the design team, the client, of course, plays a vital part in defining the project. In the case of smaller work, ‘the client’ may be a single person who will be investing his own funds, running the building and occupying it. This is unusual. The individual who acts as client is generally an identified person (sometimes a committee) who does not speak personally but whose role is to interpret the requirements of the investor, the administrators and the potential users of a building. The perceptions of each of these groups may well be different.
