ABSTRACT
We saw in Chapter 2 the pattern of feedback that teachers generally use. Most commonly in normal teaching, they use positive feedback directed towards pupils’ work and negative feedback in response to pupils’ behaviour. In this chapter, we delve a little more deeply and examine ways in which teachers respond to different groups of pupils. There have been a number of such studies and we are going to look at some concerned with pupil ability, race, pupil behaviour and gender.
