ABSTRACT
The relationship between gender and language is complex and has provoked a number of debates within feminist theory, both in linguistics and in literary theory. These debates can be grouped around two main concerns: whether language is encoded in ways that reflect a male perspective, and whether language is spoken differently by women and men.
