ABSTRACT
Born in a suburb of Detroit, Madonna Ve-ronica Louise Ciccone was encouraged early on to study dance and music. She was raised in a conservative Catholic family with seven siblings and a stepmother from age 6, when her mother, also named Madonna, died of breast cancer.
