ABSTRACT

In the previous chapters, the emphasis has been on action rather than learning. Now, however, it is important to focus on the latter concept. A theory of learning developed more fully elsewhere (Jarvis, 1987) forms the basis of this chapter. The first section of the chapter describes a pertinent research project. This is followed by a section that explicates three main categories of learning. The next section links the types of learning to the types of action and nonaction outlined in Chapter Four. In the final section, the concept of disjuncture is examined.
