ABSTRACT

The original aim of the first workshop from which this research emerged was to relate learning theory and teaching techniques; the workshop concluded with a general discussion about the implications for teaching of understanding learning. Hence, it is perhaps not surprising that this book should conclude by reverting to the original idea, not just because it was the start of this process but because one of the most important things that has emerged from this study is the conclusion that learning and teaching must be more closely related if the teaching process is to be more meaningful to the learner.
