ABSTRACT
Significant cognitive development takes place in interpersonal interaction before the development of the ability to tell stories of personal experience and actively enter the world of narrative.
From the beginning of life we learn to perceive and recognize certain interactions in specific ways with a specific emotional impact; we learn to share with others attention to new objects, we learn what is attractive or what is repulsive or dangerous, and we gradually learn to master our movements, memory, and language.
