ABSTRACT
It is diffi cult, if not impossible, to understand industrial relations in democratic Spain without turning back to their history during the Franco dictatorship. In addition to shaping the workers’ movement that subsequently was also active during the transition to democracy, this period molded industrial relations institutions that carried over into the democratic period and is thus of fundamental signifi cance for unions and industrial relations since the transition.
