ABSTRACT

As noted, human movement is paradoxical. It is an omnipresent accom - paniment of almost all human activity. Yet it is an elusive subject to study, because movement disappears even as it is occurring and leaves no artifacts behind. Researchers agree that nonverbal communication is crucial to under - standing one another; nevertheless awareness of movement is often relegated to the periphery of consciousness, guiding our actions and reac tions subliminally. It is rather unbelievable that the sense of movement, so essential to self and survival, has so often been overlooked.
