ABSTRACT

Long ages before there was any science, before the industrial arts had advanced beyond their crudest beginnings, before language had become a means of expressing ideas other than those related to the simplest social needs, drawing and music had attained levels of development far above those reached by the other productions of human genius. The most primitive peoples, dwellers in caves, have left behind pictures which exhibit artistic skill of superior order. Folk songs which have survived through the centuries were composed before there was any recorded history.
