ABSTRACT
The uguisu is a bird peculiar to Japan. Its melodious notes more than anything else make the Japanese spring what it is—at least as far as the ear is concerned. The bird was first introduced to the western world in 1847, and this introduction was made by that indefatigable German student of Japan, von Sieboldt, in his well-known Fauna Japonica.
