ABSTRACT

Transactional Analysis (also known as TA) is a technique for studying interactions between individuals. It has been successfully employed by therapists, psychologists and managers for the past fifty years to help with self-development and to improve interpersonal skills. TA enables you to understand yourself better. Through awareness and observation of how you behave towards different people in different situations, it creates a feeling of freedom. It offers you the freedom of choice about ‘how’ you interact with someone else. The idea of TA was originally developed by Eric Berne in the early 1960s, before becoming popularised by one of his students, Thomas Harris, who wrote the book I’m OK – You’re OK in 1967.
