ABSTRACT

SYSTEMS There are several facTors to consider when selecting a structural system for tall buildings. Safety, occupant comfort, and economy are the most important. The use and aesthetic of the structure also dictate possible solutions. For instance, it may be desirable to have wide column spacing at the perimeter rather than closely spaced columns. Available construction materials, available construction time, and contractor expertise must also be considered. Site factors such as poor soil conditions or high seismicity may prescribe a particular structural system.
