ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we take a closer look at the employees and, specifically, at the professionals – the talent – of knowledge-intensive firms, given that they constitute the most valuable assets of this type of firm. We consider the type of professionals firms employ, their skills and experience profiles, the means by which competences can be developed, and the importance of acknowledging and responding to professionals’ ambitions and preferences (Figure 5.1).
