ABSTRACT

Scholarly consulting and ongoing scientific support in elite team sports has been increasingly widespread since the 1970s–1980s. Initially, it was an obligatory component of elite sports development mainly in Socialist bloc countries (Latyshkevitch et al., 1987). Today, scholarly consulting and scientific support is an important component of the national macro-strategy for elite sport development (De Bosscher et al., 2010; Storm and Nielsen, 2010). Despite its special place in highly popular and financially well-supported team sports (Richardson and Riley, 2004), the issue of including scientific elements has been insufficiently studied in contemporary high level sports (Lyle, 2006).
