ABSTRACT

As soon as the news broke that there had been an accident at a nuclear power station, with radiation leaking out uncontrollably and being spread by the wind over a massive area, nuclear health experts in the west started to gather their thoughts on how it was likely to affect humans both inside and beyond Russia In the absence of firm advice or information from the Russians, they could only give informed guesses based on assumptions about the type and amount of radioisotopes which might have leaked out from the damaged reactor.
