What do the aggregate data tell us?

We use industry-level data to examine the roles of four possible productivity spillover channels: backward linkages, forward linkages, exports of FIEs and horizontal effects (including demonstration, competition, and resource reallocation). The spillover channel of labour turnover between FIEs and domestic enterprises is omitted from the model because such industry-level data are not available.
