ABSTRACT

“Burton Holmes, the traveler, author, and lecturer, tells that while he was in Seoul, the capital of Corea, he asked an intelligent Corean what side his nation would take in the then impending war between Japan and Russia. ‘You have seen two dogs fight over a bone?’ asked the Corean. Mr. Holmes assented. ‘Well,’ continued the Corean, ‘did you ever [see] the bone do any fighting?’”
