ABSTRACT

This lively project, jointly authored byYvonne Gorrod from Notre Dame High School and Joc Mack from Framingham Earl School in Norfolk, combines language learning with theatre studies, bringing German to life through the pantomime Aschenputtel (Cinderella). This has been found also to motivate those continuing with their German studies after GCSE, not to mention being great fun for all involved! The performance of Aschenputtel requires the students to do more than learn their lines however. They write and learn the script, organise costumes and props, sound and lighting; moreover, all rehearsals take place in the target language. In keeping with tradition, the pantomime, which has been performed to well over 500 learners of all ages, allows the audience to interact with the characters on stage.
