ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the issues associated with childhood; the ways in which children view and experience school; and the child–child and adult–child relationships that constitute such an essential part of their lives and learning. The chapter also addresses the realities of school for different children, notably the impact of friendships, behaviour and success or failure on their emotional, social and educational wellbeing. Other key issues include the importance of play, dealing with children's fears and how adults might respond to some of the comments that they make and events that occur from day to day.
