ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the requirements necessary for implementing a health and safety policy in the workplace. Not only the premises but also the equipment used within it need to be maintained in a good state of repair to ensure they do not become a hazard to children, staff and visitors. A health and safety policy affects all activities within the early years setting. It must be used to ensure that hazards have been identified and risks assessed to protect those on the premises. Involving staff in its development and implementation encourages a positive health and safety culture.
