ABSTRACT
By providing the right environment and taking appropriate precautions it is possible to prevent people being harmed or becoming ill through their work. Complying with health and safety legislation is not expensive, time consuming or complicated; it is about encouraging everyone to become safety conscious and creating a safety culture. To achieve this problems have to be recognised, assessed, agreed and acted upon. This chapter provides an introduction to the current regulations that form the basis of health and safety within the UK.
