ABSTRACT

Unlike the outdoors, which is often considered to be a dangerous place, indoors is thought of as being safe and secure. However, children under five years old commonly experience accidents indoors. The implications for the early years setting mean that the hazards children need to be protected against must be identified and actions taken to keep them to a minimum. This chapter looks at the types of accidents that can happen and the hazardous areas that can be found inside the early years setting, and discusses the ways that hazards are identified and risks reduced.
