ABSTRACT
The year was 1956. Personality assessment as we know it —barely 30 years old-was flourishing. The Rorschach arrived first. Its use in Europe during the 1920s and its introduction to the United States in the mid-1930s assured its historical primacy. But, by 1956, some upstarts were nipping at its heels.
