ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a summary of a discussion that took place on April 12, 1996 with David Gustafson, PhD (Professor, Industrial Engineering and Preventive Medicine and Founder, Center for Health Systems Research and Analysis, University of Wisconsin), Jack Wennberg, MD, MPH (Director, Center for the Evaluative Clinical Sciences and Professor, Department of Community and Family Medicine, Dartmouth Medical School), Tony Gorry, PhD (Vice President for Information Technology, Rice University), and two of the editors (Richard Street and Tim Manning). The discussion focused on several issues related to the implementation and effective use of interactive technology for health promotion, patient education, shared decision making, and the delivery of health services.
