ABSTRACT

Pragma-dialectics is an argumentation theory developed by Frans van Eemeren and Rob Grootendorst in the Speech Communication Department of the University of Amsterdam. Currently, van Eemeren and Grootendorst are members of the Institute for Functional Research of Language and Language Use. Together with their colleagues, they are engaged in a program for Argumentation Theory and Discourse Analysis concentrating on pragma-dialectical and rhetorical analysis of argumentative discourse. Among the other participants are Antoine Braet, Eveline Feteris, Bert Meuffels, Agnès van Rees, and Francisca Snoeck Henkemans.
