ABSTRACT
The British-American philosopher Stephen Toulmin gained an impressive reputation in the field of argumentation theory with The Uses of Argument, in which book he introduces a model representing the “layout of arguments.” In many argumentation textbooks, this model has been used for the analysis, evaluation, and construction of arguments. Toulmin’s views on argumentation have also been influential at a more theoretical level.
