ABSTRACT
The relationship between the presidency and the news media has long fascinated observers of the national scene. Does the president manipulate the press? Or does the press hold the upper hand? Are reporters too eager to publish what White House officials tell them? Are they too critical? Does the president manage the news? Is he victimized by a disrespectful press?
