ABSTRACT

This chapter, like the previous one, takes a critical perspective. In the previous chapter I provided extrinsic criticism; that is, I stood outside the qualitative paradigm and examined the topics about the qualitative way of thinking and the assumptions made. My criticism focused on how well articulated and how useful are the axioms and prescriptions for practice. In this chapter, I provide intrinsic criticism; that is, I accept the qualitative way of thinking. I take the axioms and prescriptions for practice as givens, then seek to determine the extent to which the empirical research exemplifies those tenets.
