ABSTRACT
Apart from the mental activity involved in composing the words we write, the physical act of transcription is complex and demanding. The brain must orchestrate an intricate symphony of muscle movements to ensure that we operate our pencil, pen, or keyboard in a coordinated way, at the same time ensuring that the delicate tapestry that these movements produce contains appropriate patterns of spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and organization on the page.
