ABSTRACT
Our purpose in designing QUILL was to help students learn to write by creating environments in which they would see writing as a natural way to satisfy their need to communicate. As they wrote, we hoped they would create a writing community within the classroom, and writing and reading skills would develop within the context of meaningful communication. Thus, learning by doing was at the heart of our design for QUILL.
