ABSTRACT
It was less than a year ago that I was sitting in my little log house in Telida, wondering if I dared run next door for a cup of tea while I waited for the airplane that had been arranged to pick me up and take me to Fairbanks for QUILL training. Would I miss a phone call or "bush message" on the local radio station, letting me know why the plane was late or telling me it wouldn't be coming? People were guessing-a plane had been seen flying over, just to the south, about the time I'd been expecting one to stop. Telida is small, seven households, a church and a school, plus a few old houses, no longer used, and the runway would be easy to miss for a pilot unfamiliar with the area.
