ABSTRACT

In chapter 5 you learned about evaluating evidence in general materials. Here, the principal question is also Critical Self-Inquiry 4: What information fails to stand up to question? But in this chapter you learn about evaluating empirical research reported in professional journals. To obtain empirical evidence, researchers conduct interviews with people or observe and record the behavior of people or things. Evidence is gathered concerning any one of these elements, transferred into numbers, and conclusions are drawn from the evidence based on quantitative methods of analysis.
