ABSTRACT
The number of preferential trade agreements-arrangements through which a nation grants
partial trade preferences to a trading partner-involving bilateral pairings between Asian
nations has increased from only six in 1991 to nearly 200 in 2011. Dozens more preferential
trade agreements are currently under negotiation throughout the region.
