ABSTRACT

The newest wrinkle in the evolution of on-camera auditioning is the nascent but growing practice of requiring an audition DVD. Known as a “virtual audition,” this is not to be confused with what is called the actor’s “reel,” which is a composite sampling of the actor’s past work. The requested video-recording audition tape is specific to the script in question and is meant to be sent to the casting office as a qualifying preliminary to a personal appearance. Actors presently are on their own here, often scrambling to find friends and equipment to record – self-produce, really – the requested scenes.
