ABSTRACT

In this chapter I will try both to make clear in what sense this scheme is recapitulationary and to justify such a scheme. I will try to show what is being recapitulated, on what the scheme rests, and how it respects logical and psychological constraints. I need to show in addition, or as part of achieving the above, how a recapitulation scheme can coalesce the Platonic end-focused and Rousseauian present-ripening insights. So this chapter will, as it were, withdraw a little from the particular concerns of early childhood and consider some aspects of the scheme in general.
