ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the political-ideological contexts of sport provision in the communities being studied, with a focus on the interplay between the discourse of sport as welfare and that of sport as social control. The chapter also analyzes the approaches to and perspectives on education that underpin the sports activities in these communities. Finally, the role of relationship building in engendering the social outcomes of the sport-focused interventions is explored.
