ABSTRACT

This case-study explores the variety of social agents present at the ACC, and the various functions taken up by them, both in terms of the ritual and organisational infrastructure provided by BAPS and the visitors, who may come as pilgrims or tourists, or both. One of the most interesting experiences for me was that none of the categories with which I tried to classify the groups worked for too long: for instance, the ritual specialists were also event managers and technology experts, the volunteers were both guides and devotees, and the visitors were devotees-cum-leisure tourists.
