ABSTRACT
One of the difficulties in arriving at agreement on the ideal content of a school curriculum in England is the autonomy given to schools in deciding what shall be taught. The relationship between the content and control of curriculum is being increasingly discussed in a variety of forums at the present time, for example wherever the question of ‘standards’ in schools is raised.
