ABSTRACT
The founding and growth of new fi rms for the creation of innovative products and services depends not only on the behavior of individual entrepreneurs, but also on the community and environment in which they live and work (Shoonhoven and Romanelli 2001). Not only do companies and innovation actors work and interact in informal and personal networks (professional, educational, gender, ethnic and other communities), but also in territorial networks (cities, regions, countries, and/ or geographical regions or associations). “What happens inside the companies is important, but clusters reveal that the immediate business environment outside the companies plays a vital role as well” (Porter 1998).
