ABSTRACT

Habits and routines are important elements of robustness. Once established, routines are hard to change. This calls to mind the way in which men and women, despite the desire for equality, are repeatedly confronted with patterns that point toward inequality. This is an issue that not only affects individual relations, but has consequences for the way in which society is organized. This example prompted us to ask Christien Brinkgreve, who has been writing on this subject for years, to give us her considered opinion on what she sees as changeable and unchangeable in the relation between the sexes.
