ABSTRACT

Previous editions of this book have emphasized that there are some aspects of IHRM that have achieved more attention than others-particularly the management of international assignees, including IA selection, preparation, compensation, and repatriation. There are other issues that have received less attention-although they, too, are covered in this book, such as performance management, employee well-being, labor relations, and the development of the profession. This last chapter, then, brings the discussion full-circle, providing both a summary of the profession and its practice as of today and speculation about what the issues are that are likely to confront IHR managers in the future, as this discipline develops further in its role of becoming a major participant in the strategic management of at least the human resource aspects of the ever-increasing activity of international business.
