ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on an enquiry into concepts or key ideas, and employs a particular cycle of learning that can be applied to locally agreed syllabuses for religious education. It recommends that teachers should focus on one of several potential concepts that underpin the religious material that has been selected. As children engage, with the particular concepts, they are in a position to relate to the concept themselves, make sense of the concepts within their own experience, and be in a better position to recognise the significance of that concept for the particular religious people being explored. With that in mind, this publication illustrates how children can enquire into simple concepts or key ideas that are part of common human experience. The cycle of learning is a particular methodology which provides a structure that enables children to focus on and enquire into a concept.
