ABSTRACT

The concept or key idea of remembering has enormous potential as it can be applied to many religious practices. It is particularly helpful for young children to recognise the different ways in which religious people remember events, people and stories because they are precious and meaningful to them and they wish to preserve them and keep them alive. The concept of remembering can form the foundation for exploring symbol, ritual and myth later in Key Stage 2. This unit explores the concept of remembering in the context of how Christians remember Jesus at Christmas. It also provides examples of how remembering can be explored within aspects of other major religions in relation to festivals, stories or people.
