In this chapter I address Derrida’s encounters with architects, in particular with

Peter Eisenman and the project known as Chora L Works, an unbuilt park within

the Parc de la Villette on the outskirts of Paris (Wigley, 1987; Papadakis et al.,

1989; Derrida and Hanel, 1990; Eisenman, 1990; Kipnis, 1991; Soltan, 1991;

Patin, 1993; Kipnis and Leeser, 1997; Benjamin, 2000). Derrida’s major

encounter with architects began in 1984. It is instructive to see what led to this

event.
