ABSTRACT

This chapter will explore the subject of methods of investigation. It will be divided into different yet connected areas, such as the use of hypothesis in investigations and methods of investigations. It will consider a model for the investigative process, heuristic knowledge, the investigative mindset, the importance of the golden hour in investigations and what happens during the early stages of a missing person case. Further, it will consider what positive actions can be taken when dealing with domestic violence incidents, and the importance of forensic evidence and its role in investigation. It also includes a brief introduction to the National Intelligence Model (NIM) and the management of critical investigations.
