ABSTRACT

This chapter develops the previous discussions on intelligence-led policing that began in Chapter 10. The chapter recognises that, while being a development that arose from ILP, the National Intelligence Model is not only about ILP, and can equally embrace other policing tactics. Its development and prominence is also explained by its contextualisation of knowledge management principles within policing, and through its specific recognition and articulation of strategic intelligence. The chapter therefore begins with an overview of these two areas.
