ABSTRACT
The issue of policing demonstrations and public disorder incidents is a topical one. This chapter will consider the historical context of policing such incidents, the changing role of the police when dealing with demonstrations and the impact of the police culture in such situations, and considers some strategies for maintaining public support in the face of media criticism over the handling of such demonstrations as the G20 summit.
